Switzerland-Spain (Saturday August 5)

L’Spain, nicknamed La Roja, won two crushing victories, first against Costa Rica with a 3-0 scoreline and then against Zambia with an impressive 5-0. However, in the last decisive game for the first place in Group C, Alba Redondo and her partners suffered a disconcerting defeat against Japan with a score of 4-0. Opposite, Switzerland, which reached the quarter-finals of the last Euro, is not an opponent to be taken lightly. The Nati have shown a very solid defense since the start of the tournament by keeping their clean sheets in all group matches. Two 0-0 draws against Norway and New Zealand, then a clear 2-0 victory against the Philippines. This round of 16 promises to be a captivating confrontation between a Spanish team in search of redemption and a Swiss team which will seek to create a surprise by relying in particular on their impassable defense.

Japan-Norway (Saturday August 5)

Japan will face Norway in the second Round of 16 of the Women's World Cup. Japan, world champions in 2011 and runners-up in 2015, finished top of their group with three wins, including a 4-0 thrashing against Spain. The Japanese are in great form with six straight wins in all competitions. On the other side, Norway, world champions in 1995, finished second in their group with a defeat against New Zealand (1-0) and two draws.Ada Hegerberg, the famous OL player and 2018 Ballon d'Or winner, will seek with her teammates to reach the quarter-finals. Historically, Japan dominates Norway with five victories out of seven direct confrontations. Both teams are however particularly motivated to continue their adventure in the competition, but Japan, carried by a formidable attack, seem to be in better shape. Advantage in the land of the rising sun therefore, even if everything is possible in a match..

Netherlands-South Africa (Sunday August 6)

The Netherlands, European champions 2017, finished top of their group with two victories (1-0 against Portugal and 7-0 against Vietnam) and a 1-1 draw against the United States, defending champions. The Dutch have a solid and experienced squad, led by talented players such as Vivianne Miedema and Lieke Martens. For their part, South Africa finished in second place in their group, with a 3-2 victory against Italy, a draw against Argentina (2-2) and a loss against Sweden (2- 1). This is the first time that South Africa has reached the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup. Historically, the Netherlands and the Banyana Banyana have faced each other only once in official competition, during the 2016 Olympic Games, where the Netherlands won 1-0. The forecast gives the Netherlands favorites to win this match, given their experience and talent, but South Africa could well create the surprise and will fight no matter what with determination to continue their historic journey in the competition.

Sweden-USA (Sunday August 6)

Sweden finished top of Group G in the group stage of this Women's World Cup. The Swedish players successively beat South Africa (2-1), Italy (5-0) and Argentina (0-2). These victories allowed them to qualify for the round of 16 where they will face the United States, double defending champions. The Americans, for their part, qualified for the round of 16 by finishing second in group E. In their first group match, they beat Vietnam (3-0) before sharing the points against the Netherlands ( 1-1). Then, in the decisive match against Portugal, the Americans had to settle for a draw (0-0) and came close to elimination when the Lusitanians touched the post at the end of the match. Despite this mixed result,Alex Morgan and her partners managed to qualify for the elimination phase, and remain favorites against the Swedes. But the Scandinavian team, in full swing, is not to be taken lightly. Their history speaks for them (Finalist of the 2003 World Cup, semi-finalist of the last Euro…).

England-Nigeria (Monday August 7)

During the last pool match in this Women's World Cup, the England won a resounding victory against China (6-1), thus finishing in first place in Group D. Before that, the English had taken the scalp of Haiti then Denmark, each time on the score of 1 to 0 For its part, Nigeria qualified by holding Canada (0-0) and Ireland (0-0) in check, but above all by beating Australia (2-3). The two teams, which include the talented Asisat Oshoala (FC Barcelona / Nigeria) and Alessia Russo (Manchester United / England), will give everything to reach the quarter-finals. The Super Falcons will be hoping to reach the quarter-finals as in 1999, the best performance by an African team in the tournament. During the last French edition in 2019, they failed in the round of 16. THEThree Lionesses, reigning European champions, had achieved their best performance in 2015, an edition during which they returned home crowned with an honorable third place.

Australia-Denmark (Monday August 7)

Led by the inevitable Samantha Kerr (Chelsea), Australia, which co-organizes the World Cup with New Zealand, qualified for the round of 16 by performing well in the group stage. The Matildas won their first match against Ireland (1-0), then lost to Nigeria in a close match (2-3). In their last group game, they crushed Canada, the reigning Olympic champions, with a final score of 4-0. Thanks to these results, the Australians finished top of their group. Denmark, for its part, qualified for the round of 16 by finishing in second place in its pool. On the last day, the Scandinavians managed to beat Haiti 2-0, with goals scored by Pernille Harder (21st from the penalty spot) and Sanne Troelsgaard (90th +10). Before that, they had beaten China by the narrowest of margins (1-0), then lost to the English on the same narrow score. This qualification marks in any case their return to the round of 16 of the Women's World Cup for the first time since 1995. Australia is nevertheless the favorite for this meeting.

Colombia-Jamaica (Tuesday August 8)

This match between Colombia and Jamaica, two surprise teams, promises to be exciting. Colombia finished top of Group H with two wins and one loss, thus qualifying for the finals of the competition. The Cafeteras showed their strength by beating South Korea (2-0) and Germany (1-2), but lost against Morocco (1-0). For its part, Jamaica qualified by finishing second in its group F. The Reggae Girlz started with a promising draw against France (0-0) before beating Panama (0-1) then clinging to the general surpriseBrazil (0-0), whom they eliminated. The match between Colombia and Jamaica therefore promises to be tight, as both teams will seek to continue their good momentum. Colombia will try to rely on talented players such as Yoreli Rincon and Catalina Usme. For their part, Jamaica will rely on the speed and power of players like Jody Brown and Khadija Shaw to try to create scoring chances, while trying to stay as solid defensively.

France-Morocco (Tuesday August 8)

The French team, led by its captainWendyRenard and the inevitableEugenie Le Sommer, passed its group stage. In pool F, Les Bleues obtained two wins and a draw, thus ranking first. After a timid start against Jamaica (0-0), the Tricolores were able to recover brilliantly in front of the Brazilian players (2-1), while completing their group stage with a tennis score in front of Panama (3-6 ). Morocco, for its part, had a nightmarish start against Germany (0-6). After this meeting, few observers thought that the Atlas Lionesses could qualify... But the troops of Reynald Pedros, the former French international and coach of OL women, managed to thwart the odds by beating Korea du Sud then Colombia, each time with a score of 1 to 0. With six points, the Moroccans finished second in their pool and continued the adventure. The French team will want to reach the quarter-finals at all costs as in 2019 before considering going further, while Morocco, finalist of the last AFCON, will want to continue to surprise. As a reminder, this is the first participation of the Atlas Lionesses in a Women's World Cup, which makes their performance all the more heroic. Until succeeding in avenging the boys, defeated against the Blues in the semi-finals of the 2024 World Cup?
