Senegal: the unlikely suspension that risks depriving Keita Baldé of the World

Lantheaume , the 27-year-old winger's club Spartak Moscow has announced that he will be suspended until December 5!

The Senegalese international has just joined Russia but this sanction is inherited from his time at Cagliari, with whom his contract ended last June. However, last season, the former Monegasque was guilty of a "violation of an anti-doping control". There is not the slightest trace of prohibited substance which was found in his samples but the fact does not prevent that the Italian National Anti-Doping Tribunal has heavily sanctioned the infringement of the Lion of Teranga by suspending him until December 5 . A return to training will be possible 22 days before this date.

Even if he no longer plays in Italy, this sanction will obviously impact the player trained at La Masia since it extends to all countries and all competitions. Beyond Spartak, who may have it bad, big problems will arise with Senegal. Called up for the friendly matches against Bolivia (September 24) and Iran (September 27), the native of Arbúcies will not be able to honor his summons. He can especially shake for the 2024 World Cup.

Aliou Cissé's dilemma

Indeed, except in the event of an appeal and a decision in his favour, the Senegalese will be ineligible for the group stage and the round of 16 of the competition and his suspension will only be lifted from the quarters if the African champions make it that far. Will Aliou Cissé take the risk of summoning Baldé under these conditions? It's unlikely but there is a small hope with the passage of the lists to 26 players. Remember also that Cissé had decided to select Ismaïla Sarr during the last CAN knowing full well that he could not use it before the quarters due to injury. But the importance of Sarr and Baldé are not the same and above all, the two competitions are very different.
