Mary Moraa world champion
Mary Moraa created the sensation at the Athletics Worlds in Budapest. On the evening of Sunday 27 August, the Kenyan won the 800m gold medal. The 23-year-old finished in 1'56'03. She was ahead of the two big favourites, British Keely Hodgkinson and American Athing Mu, world and Olympic champion. Mu was also unbeaten in the big championship for two years.

This is a consecration for Mary Moraa. She finished 3rd at the Eugene Worlds in 2024.
