It made history on Sunday, July 30, 2024. Nouhaila Benzina, a Moroccan international, became the first player in history to wear the hijab at the Women’s World Cup. 
After receiving permission from FIFA to wear the hijab during matches, Benzina made history this Sunday, when Morocco defeated South Korea (0-1) in the group stages of the Women’s World Cup.
